ESCIMO® – white groundcover rose – Kordes

This multi-award-winning Escimo® groundcover brings reliable white flowering to everyday gardens with a bushy, spreading habit that quickly knits into a low, tidy carpet. Its clusters of small, double blooms open from creamy buds to pure snow-white, then drop cleanly, so the plant stays orderly with very little deadheading. Bred by Kordes and supplied as a premium own-root plant, it settles steadily and supports a long-lived planting that improves year after year. Give it decent drainage to cope with typical British rainfall and it will reward you with dense, glossy foliage and dependable performance in beds, borders and front-of-house plantings. In the first year it concentrates on rooting, the second on building structure, and by the third season you enjoy its full ornamental value as an easy, quietly elegant presence in the garden for busy beginners and experienced gardeners alike.

Freshly opened Escimo® bloom with pure white petals and a soft creamy centre.

Usage options

Target area Reasoning
Front garden groundcover Forms a low, bushy mat that keeps soil covered and reduces weeding, with self-cleaning white clusters that always look neat from the pavement. Ideal to frame paths, drives and entrances with a calm, bright effect for the style-conscious homeowner
Edging for mixed borders Its spreading habit and modest height create a soft white edge in front of taller shrubs and perennials, tying mixed cottage-style plantings together. Glossy dark foliage sets off stronger colours while needing only light seasonal pruning, suiting the relaxed gardener
Small bed or island feature Planted in groups of 3–5, the even snow-white colour gives a simple, unified look that is easy to plan and maintain. Over a few seasons it fills gaps steadily, building a durable base without complex techniques, which reassures the tentative beginner
Low informal hedge At 60–100 cm high it links drives, paths or lawn edges with a low, flowering line that is easy to keep in shape with one light prune a year. Own-root plants reshoot well after trimming, supporting a long service life for the practical planner
Containers and large pots Suited to generously sized containers of at least 40–50 litres where its compact, spreading growth and self-cleaning flowers give a clean look on patios or balconies. Reliable repeat bloom with basic watering and feeding fits the busy urban owner
Family play-area borders Dense branching and moderate thorns make a defined, low planting edge that visually separates play spaces from beds without creating a tall barrier. Its tidy habit and modest maintenance needs suit time-pressed parents wanting simple boundaries for the active family
Low-maintenance mass planting Designed for wider coverage at 1–1.2 plants/m², it slowly knits together into a coherent carpet that suppresses many weeds. Once established and properly drained for typical British wet spells, it offers reliable structure with limited intervention for the cost-aware buyer
Long-term rose schemes As an own-root shrub it regenerates well from the base, maintaining its character without graft issues and responding flexibly to different pruning styles. Once the first-year rooting and second-year framework are in place, it becomes a stable element for the forward-looking planner

Styling ideas

  • White-carpet entry – Use a short row along the drive, underplanting with dwarf heuchera for foliage contrast and an easy, evergreen welcome – ideal for busy householders
  • Cottage border ribbon – Thread a loose line in front of taller pink verbena and traditional perennials to create a soft white ribbon tying mixed colours together – perfect for cottage-garden enthusiasts
  • Patio focus pot – Plant three Escimo® in a single 50-litre terracotta container for a dome of white above glossy foliage that stays smart with little deadheading – suited to balcony and patio dwellers
  • Monochrome corner – Combine with silver Artemisia ‘Nana’ and pale paving to build a restrained, all-light scheme that looks composed year-round with minimal input – appealing to lovers of calm, neutral designs
  • Family-friendly frame – Edge a lawn or play area with a low band of Escimo® that defines space without blocking sightlines, keeping borders neat yet uncomplicated – helpful for young families

Colour data and phenology Snow-white blooms with a soft creamy glow at the petal base (RHS NN155A, 158C); buds are cream-tinged, opening bright white then gently fading to matte pure white with generally good colour retention.
Fragrance and aroma Very weak fragrance with a light classic rosy character only faintly noticeable on close inspection; primarily grown for its visual effect rather than scent or pollinator value in mixed plantings.
Hip characteristics Occasional small hips form, spherical and red, about 6–10 mm in diameter; not typically a major ornamental feature but can add a discreet seasonal detail in late season if left unpruned.
Resistance and winter hardiness Hardy to around -23 to -21 °C (RHS H7, USDA 6a, Swedish Zone 3); moderate resistance to black spot, powdery mildew and rust, benefiting from good airflow and basic preventive care in humid sites.
Horticultural recommendations Suited to sunny beds, borders, edging and urban plantings; plant 1–1.2 per m² for groundcover. Prefers well-drained soil, regular watering in dry spells and occasional pest and disease checks as needed.

ESCIMO® – white groundcover rose offers neat, self-cleaning flowering, a compact spreading habit and durable own-root growth that settles in for the long term, making it a thoughtful choice for a straightforward, dependable planting.

Information about the videos
The video series is not a “seasonal showcase”; it illustrates the essence of pharmaROSA® own-root cultivation in a tangible way: how the plant is built up, what the root system is like and how the shoot system regenerates. The recordings were therefore made at different times and with plants at various stages of development, so mixed foliage levels and differing stages of growth may appear in the videos. They are not a ‘sample’ of the batch dispatched, but a visual explanation of how the technology works. The current condition of the rose available to order — typical for the given period and similar to what you can expect to receive in the parcel — is shown in the upper part of the product page.
