ELIANE GILLET™ – white with red-edged petals nostalgia rose - Massad
This romantically coloured shrub rose brings a refined cottage atmosphere to ordinary family gardens, pairing creamy-white petals with a raspberry-red edge that softens beautifully as the flowers age. Its dense, bushy habit and glossy mid-green foliage form a rounded, medium-height shrub that works equally well near a front door or along a short path. Remontant, cluster-borne blooms provide repeat flowering through the season, giving you regular flushes of elegant, very full cupped flowers that can also be cut for indoor vases. Mild, classic rose fragrance adds a gentle scent without overwhelming smaller spaces, and the own-root form supports a long-lived, regenerating shrub that steadily builds impact – roots in the first year, strong shoots in the second, full ornamental value by the third – while coping steadily with typical British moisture and the need for reliable drainage in heavier soils.

Reasoning
Front garden focal shrub
The medium-height, bushy form and dense, glossy foliage make this rose ideal as a single specimen by a path, gate or bay window, giving classic charm without overwhelming smaller spaces; perfect for aesthetically minded beginners and cottage-style homeowners.
Small mixed bed in family garden
Cluster-flowered, very full blooms in cream and raspberry-red provide season-long structure in compact borders, pairing well with perennials while its rounded habit fills gaps cleanly; well suited to busy gardeners wanting reliable colour with simple upkeep families.
Cottage-style edging or low hedge
Regular repeat flowering and uniform, bushy growth allow you to plant at 60–70 cm spacing for a low, nostalgic edging that frames paths or lawns, ideal where you want a soft, romantic line without intricate design work beginners.
Cutting corner near the house
The medium-sized, very full, cupped flowers, carried in clusters, are easy to cut for the house and last well in vases, giving you classic rose bouquets from a modest planting area close to the back door flower-lovers.
Part-shaded town garden border
This variety tolerates partial shade, so it performs respectably in front or side gardens that lose direct sun for part of the day, maintaining colour and form where full-sun types may struggle; an advantage for small urban plots city-gardeners.
Large terrace pot or courtyard container
In a 40–50 litre or larger container with good drainage, its compact height and repeat blooms suit patios and courtyards, keeping classic rose character close to seating areas and windows for those with little ground space balcony-owners.
Wind-exposed, tidy front border
The bushy structure and moderate height help it stand up to typical British breezes in open front gardens, especially where soil has been improved to avoid waterlogging in wet, windy spells, reassuring those in breezier districts coastal-residents.
Long-term own-root rose area
As an own-root shrub, it forms its natural shape in situ and can regenerate from the base if cut back or damaged, giving a durable, adaptable planting that settles into the garden picture over years with straightforward pruning options planners.
Styling ideas
Cottage ribbon – Plant as a loose, low hedge along a front path, interspersed with soft perennials like garden phlox to echo the nostalgic flower form – ideal for lovers of traditional cottage front gardens.
Porch welcome – Use a single shrub in a large pot either side of a doorway, combining with airy baby’s-breath at the base to highlight the cupped blooms – suited to homeowners wanting a romantic yet tidy entrance.
Pastel pocket – Group three plants in a small bed with pale perennials and grasses so the cream and raspberry tones can repeat-flower as a gentle focal point – perfect for beginners seeking simple, dependable colour.
Family border – Mix into a short family border with bupleurum and other soft-textured companions, using its medium height to bridge lawn and taller shrubs – good for busy families wanting structure without complex design.
Courtyard classic – Place one plant in a 50 litre container near seating, underplanted with low herbs, so the mild fragrance and nostalgic blooms can be enjoyed up close – ideal for small-plot or urban terrace gardeners.
Technical cultivar profile
Property
Data
Name and registration
Romantic shrub rose from the Générosa collection, registered as MASelgi and marketed as Eliane Gillet™ Générosa® MASelgi; nostalgia rose type suitable for exhibition as a shrub or for cutting.
Origin and breeding
Bred by Dominique Massad for Roseraies Guillot in France, introduced and registered in 1997; parentage is not recorded, but selection focused on romantic flower form and garden performance in temperate European climates.
Growth and structural characteristics
Bushy, medium-height shrub to around 80–130 cm in both height and spread, with dense, mid-green glossy foliage and moderate prickliness; forms a rounded outline suitable for beds, low hedges and decorative containers.
Flower morphology
Very full, cupped, cluster-borne flowers with over 40 petals per bloom and medium individual flower size; remontant habit gives a good initial flush followed by lighter repeat flowerings through the season under normal care.
Colour data and phenology
Cream-white base with pink-red edging, ARS RB, RHS 155D outer and 55C inner; buds open ivory with blush, intensify at the margins, then fade through soft peach-rose before petals drop while the ground colour remains stable.
Fragrance and aroma
Mild, classic rose fragrance that is noticeable at close range without dominating nearby plantings or seating areas; ideal in small gardens or near paths and doors where a subtle, traditional scent is preferred over strong perfume.
Hip characteristics
Rose hip production is generally low because of the very double flowers; occasional spherical hips 6–10 mm across may develop, in orange-red tones, adding modest seasonal interest without becoming visually dominant.
Resistance and winter hardiness
Fully hardy to approximately -21 to -18 °C (RHS H7, USDA 6b, Swedish zone 3), but with moderate susceptibility to mildew and black spot and marked rust sensitivity, so regular monitoring and timely plant protection are recommended.
Horticultural recommendations
Best in well-drained soil with regular feeding and watering during dry spells; spacing 60–70 cm for hedging or mass plantings, 110 cm as a specimen, and suitable for larger containers where 40–50 litre volume can be provided.
ELIANE GILLET™ offers romantic repeat flowering, a compact bushy habit and medium-sized cupped blooms on a resilient own-root shrub, making it a refined yet practical choice for long-term cottage-style planting.

Information about the videos
The video series is not a “seasonal showcase”; it illustrates the essence of pharmaROSA® own-root cultivation in a tangible way: how the plant is built up, what the root system is like and how the shoot system regenerates. The recordings were therefore made at different times and with plants at various stages of development, so mixed foliage levels and differing stages of growth may appear in the videos. They are not a ‘sample’ of the batch dispatched, but a visual explanation of how the technology works. The current condition of the rose available to order — typical for the given period and similar to what you can expect to receive in the parcel — is shown in the upper part of the product page.
