BLUE PETER™ – purple dwarf-mini rose - De Ruiter

Compact and naturally neat, BLUE PETER™ is a miniature rose bred for patios, small borders and tidy front gardens where you want colour without fuss. Its rich lilac blooms repeat reliably through the season, needing only light deadheading to keep the plant floriferous. On its own roots it settles in securely, building a long-lived, well-balanced bush that copes well even in exposed sites with frequent rain and wind. In the first year it concentrates on roots, in the second on stronger shoots, and by the third year it reaches its full ornamental value. Good disease resistance and low maintenance make it a reassuring choice for beginners, while its subtle musky fragrance and exhibition-quality miniature blooms also please experienced collectors. For classic cottage-style planting, its soft lilac tones mix easily with other perennials and evergreen structure.

Usage options

Target areaReasoning
Front garden edging The very small, compact bush habit keeps paths and drive edges tidy without overwhelming a modest front garden, giving a structured, low border that is easy to maintain for many years on its own roots – ideal for time-poor homeowners.
Small beds and narrow borders Reliable repeat flowering in clusters ensures a long season of lilac colour from a tiny footprint, filling slim borders where space is limited and complicated planting schemes are impractical – well suited to busy urban gardeners.
Container on patio or balcony (40–50 litre+) The dwarf size and naturally neat shape make it ideal for a generous 40–50 litre container, where it forms a stable, long-lived shrub that is easy to water and enjoy up close – perfect for compact-space dwellers.
Low-maintenance family garden planting Inherent disease resistance and low general care needs mean fewer sprays and interventions, providing dependable flowering and tidy foliage even when life is busy and gardening time is short – reassuring for novice rose-keepers.
Cottage-style mixed planting The soft lilac palette and classic cupped blooms blend naturally with perennials and small shrubs, echoing traditional British cottage gardens while staying in proportion for modern plots – attractive to style-conscious beginners.
Wind-exposed or coastal-leaning sites Its low, compact growth habit and sturdy branching help it stay upright and presentable in areas where frequent rain and stronger breezes might damage taller roses, reducing the need for staking – practical for coastal-area gardeners.
Family-friendly beds near seating areas The manageable height and medium, soft musky scent allow you to enjoy colour and perfume at close range without overwhelming small terraces, creating a welcoming, calm corner for everyday use – appealing to relaxation-seeking families.
Collector’s miniature and show planting The refined, double miniature blooms and stable, long-lived own-root growth offer a reliable subject for enthusiasts who appreciate form and consistency in a compact plant that holds its shape well – valued by rose-show collectors.

Styling ideas

  • Cottage edge – Line a narrow front path with BLUE PETER™ interplanted with low-growing catmint for a soft, fragrant cottage look – for lovers of traditional, romantic gardens.
  • Lilac focus – Plant in a 50 litre terracotta pot with silver thyme trailing over the rim to highlight the compact form and repeat blooms – for balcony and patio container gardeners.
  • Neat border – Use short rows along a mixed shrub border, fronting taller roses and perennials so the tidy habit creates a clear visual edge – for those who prefer orderly, low-maintenance beds.
  • Mini rose drift – Group 3–5 plants in a small bed with evergreen euonymus for year-round structure and a soft lilac summer haze – for homeowners wanting impact from a small space.
  • Family corner – Place near a seating area with lavender and compact grasses so children and adults can enjoy the colour and gentle fragrance without tall, thorny growth – for relaxed, family-use gardens.

Information about the videos
The video series is not a “seasonal showcase”; it illustrates the essence of pharmaROSA® own-root cultivation in a tangible way: how the plant is built up, what the root system is like and how the shoot system regenerates. The recordings were therefore made at different times and with plants at various stages of development, so mixed foliage levels and differing stages of growth may appear in the videos. They are not a ‘sample’ of the batch dispatched, but a visual explanation of how the technology works. The current condition of the rose available to order — typical for the given period and similar to what you can expect to receive in the parcel — is shown in the upper part of the product page.
